‘Tis the life of a baby…

Time for my next nap!

Charlotte’s First Bath

Wrapped up in a blanket
Cozy, safe and sound
You pick me up and smile
Then you strip me down.

IMG_1273

You put me in water
And expect me not to scream
Well, I'll just tell you frankly,
Only in your dreams.

IMG_1275

Don't wash behind my ears
And leave my toes alone
Just because I'm crying,
Try not to use that tone.

IMG_1276

Please give me back my blanket.
Wrap me up so tight.
With lots of hugs and kisses,
I'll forgive you...I just might.

As most babies, Charlotte was not to fond of her first bath.  Since she is so much smaller than Grant was this was quite a production…both Matt and I felt that we needed to be holding onto her so that she didn’t slip off the sponge, and boy was she slippery.  Hopefully we will get better at this once she gets bigger.

First Day at Home..as a family of 4!

After a long wait at the hospital to be discharged we were finally on our way home!  We were so glad to be able to sleep in our own bed and to get Charlotte home and start our life as a family of 4!  We cannot get over how blessed we are!

When we got home Grammy and Grant were waiting anxiously for us.  After getting settled in we decided to give Grant his present from Charlotte and take some pictures.  We decided to give Grant a gift so that he would not feel left out of all the hustle and bustle of bringing Charlotte home.  We told him the gift was from Charlotte and he was thrilled.

Before Charlotte was born we bought her this super cute, super soft dress as her coming home outfit.  Well because of her size it just swallowed her so we opted not to wear it home but for her to wear something that would be more snug instead.  It was so cute so we decided to take some pictures of her in it anyways.

Then we decided to take our first picture as a family of 4!  (please excuse how I look…after you have a c-section you don’t exactly feel or look your best)

Big Brother “Hospital Hands”

Our hospital has a cute thing that every big brother or big sister of a new baby gets to do so they will feel special too.  They get to paint their hands and put their handprints on the wall of the nursery ward of the hospital.

We asked Grant what color he wanted to paint his hands and he said “blue, no red, no green”, so we eventually talked him into one color – red.

With daddy’s help Grant placed his hands on the wall for perfectly adorable Grant handprints that will remain on the wall as a special memory of the very special day that Charlotte was born and Grant became a big brother.

One very proud Big Brother!

Last Lazy Days of Summer

(The two below posts “First Day at Preschool and “Last Lazy days of Summer” have been posted out of order and should be posted before the “Happy Birthday Charlotte Anne” post)

"By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather
And autumn’s best of cheer."

All little boys must enjoy the simple things about the last days of summer…like drinking from the garden hose!

Today was a big day for Mister Grant and mommy and daddy…he is going to start preschool at our church’s preschool program, The Lamb School. All week the previous week we had been preparing, eating lunch from Grant’s lunchbox, practicing laying down on his nap mat and picking out new school clothes.

We started the day with a good breakfast of banana bread, yogurt and milk and off we were to get ready for the day.

IMG_1116 After getting dressed and everything that we needed for the day we were out the door…but not before taking a few “first day of school” pictures.

When we got to school we took a few more pictures then headed inside to Grant’s classroom.

As we had expected there were a few tears, mostly from mommy when we got back in the car, but overall Grant had a great first day at school. He came home and told us that he got to “paint hand red”.

We are excited that he is loving school so much and don’t expect the “goodbye” tears to last much longer! We are lucky that we found a great preschool within our church that will teach Grant about the most important thing...our Lord.

Happy Birthday Charlotte Anne! 9/25/09

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful I know that full well.

Psalms 139:13

After many months of waiting and praying for a special little lady the day had finally arrived!  I was scheduled to be induced on Friday September 25th at 8:30 am due to high blood pressure issues.  (The exact same thing that happened with Grant’s birth).  Needless to say the night before was sleepless and Matt and i were off to the hospital bright and early the morning of.  Here is my last pregnancy picture at 37 weeks 2 days:

Once we were at the hospital we got checked in and off to triage to prepare for surgery.  The doctor was right on time and off we went to meet our little girl right at 8:30.

By 8:48am Miss Charlotte Anne was here weighing 5 pounds 13.4 oz, 18.5in long!  What an angel!

After getting Charlotte all cleaned up I was moved to the recovery room and had the first chance to meet our baby girl!  I thought at first that she looked completely different from Grant but the more I looked at her I was wrong…she looks very similar to Grant!

Next, Charlotte was introduced to her Grammy, Nanny and Pop.  Of course they loved her instantly and couldn’t have been more proud of this little lady.

Big brother Grant was the next.  We honestly weren’t sure how he would react but we were pleasantly surprised.  He wasn’t all the interested in her honestly, but he did pose for a few pictures with her.  He even wore his appropriate “Big Brother” shirt! He was most interested in playing peek-a-boo out from behind the curtain in my room.

We were in the hospital for 3 days with the first 2 days being the worst pain-wise for me.  I did not remember the amount of pain that a c-section left you in….i think i may have blocked it out after Grant’s birth.  But everything was 100% worth it in the end.  The last day in the hospital was a relaxing day of just bonding with baby and trying to catch up on much needed rest.

We are quickly realizing that every moment with a little girl is a perfect photo opportunity also.  I have always loved the over-sized bows on little girls so now was my chance!

We are so excited that she is here and enjoying every minute that she is this little because it flies by in an instant!
